Mission & Principles
Arts+Labs embraces the Internet as a showcase of creativity, a platform for ideas, and a marketplace of innovation. We work to promote the Internet as a vibrant town center where all consumers can safely choose from a vast array of digital products, entertainment and services. Our members are united in supporting the development of innovative, creative content and the fast, safe, and reliable networks on which the distribution of that content relies.
Arts+Labs operates on a core belief that quality content drives the Internet; that distribution of easily accessible, affordable content in the Internet age requires new business models; and that creators deserve to benefit from their creativity. Accordingly, Arts+Labs also aims to ensure that artists and innovators can easily and effectively share their creativity through new distribution channels online, secure in the confidence that their rights will be respected and their ingenuity rewarded. Our commitment to consumers is that we will work to keep them informed about how and where they can find and safely enjoy the vast array of legal, affordable, and innovative content on the Internet.
To promote innovation in the robust and intelligent networks needed for the swift and safe delivery of the online content consumers demand, Arts+Labs will work to inform and educate consumers about the threat of net pollution – activities such as spam, malware, illegal file trafficking and computer viruses – that undermine the Internet for consumers, innovators and creators alike.
As more content is delivered online, robust, intelligent networks are vitally important in providing consumers with fast, safe, and reliable access to the legal products, services and Web sites of their choice. At the same time, network operators must have the flexibility to manage and expand their networks to defend against net pollution which threatens to congest and delay the network for all consumers.
The Internet should be a showcase of creativity where consumers know how and where they can access content and choose from a vast array of digital products, entertainment and services from as many competitors as possible.
We seek an online environment in which innovation and competition flourishes, innovative new content is continually created, and fresh business models can be tested with the knowledge that every participant retains the legal right to the rewards of their creativity.
A voluntary and successfully self-regulated network of networks, the Internet functions best on the basis of mutual respect and fairness – for the rights of creators and innovators to be fairly compensated for the use of their work and for the rights of all consumers to access a wide variety of legal content options.
